New Zealand Bishop warns priests not to import practices from the 1962 Mass into the Novus Ordo. Bishop Stephen Lowe of Auckland, New Zealand, has rediscovered the liturgical rubrics. In a September 11 letter, he asked priests to review how they actually celebrate the Eucharist in light of the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM). Key passage: “In particular, I would like to underline Fr Paul’s comment that we should not be adding things back into the Liturgy that were part of the 1962 Latin Mass.” The letter follows workshops led by American liturgist Fr Paul Turner and organised by the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference across all six dioceses. #newsQkshdczbqd

US priest affiliates with FSSPX, canonical proceedings started. Rev. Philip Conklin, 38, a priest of St. Paul and Minneapolis, has affiliated with the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X (FSSPX), and his archbishop has initiated a canonical process against him. It will presumably see the priest declared excommunicated. Archbishop Bernard Hebda wrote on September 30 in the archdiocese’s newspaper: “After confirming with Father Conklin that he does not intend to cease this affiliation, I have felt compelled to commence a canonical process to clarify the situation and his status.” Rev. Conklin was ordained a priest by Archbishop Hebda relatively recently, on May 25, 2024. In March 2026, he went on a six-month leave of absence to discern his priestly vocation. There are some interesting biographical details. Before entering seminary, he trained as a pilot, served for six years in the U.S. Air Force as an air traffic controller, and subsequently worked as a civilian air traffic contractor at …Suli
01.10.2026 CARDINALS BURKE, SARAH AND MULLER AND THE SSPX MUST ACCEPT VC2 LIKE THE ST. BENEDICT CENTER, NH: BREAKTHROUGH Vatican Council II is now no more an issue for the sedevacantists. They can interpret the Council like the St. Benedict Center in New Hampshire, USA and accept it. It is in harmony with Tradition and no more liberal. We do not have to interpret Vatican Council II any more like Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke and the SSPX. It is Cushingite. Brother Andre Marie micm, Prior at the St. Benedict Center, NH, and the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary know that it is Pope Francis, Pope Leo and cardinals Fernandez, Roche and Cupich who create division in the Church, when they do not interpret and accept, Vatican Council II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, rationally and not traditionally. It is the irrational interpretation of Vatican Council II which produces division in the Church. When the Diocese of Manchester in NH, for example. Interprets the Creeds, Councils …Suli
Homily Friday, October 2, 2026 Job 38:1, 12-21; 40:3-5 God said to Job, “What is the way to the dwelling of light?” God’s light is given to us, but we cannot follow it. Let us welcome the rays of God’s love within us. Matthew 18:1-5, 10 Jesus said, “Become like children.” To rediscover our childlike hearts is to welcome the joy and peace within us, manifestations of God’s love. Biblical texts: NAB-RE Normand Thomas.
Pope Leo XIV has appointed Bishop Pierre Goudreault - open to married priests - as the new bishop of Trois-Rivières, Quebec. Bishop Goudreault, 63, has governed Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière since 2018 and has headed the Canadian bishops’ conference since September 2025. He said after his September 29 appointment that Catholics should discern how to become “a synodal Church” characterized by “mutual listening” and “communal discernment.” “The Church as a laboratory” Already before becoming a bishop, Goudreault told LePlacoteux.com in 2017 that he sees “the Church as a laboratory where we have to allow ourselves to try things” and that “we have to change our ways of doing things”. The remarks accompanied discussion of his book Faire Église autrement (“Being Church Differently”), in which he proposed the multiplication of small groups for reflection, faith-sharing and Christian formation as a path for the Church's future. Open to Married Priests In January 2024, LePlacoteux.com asked …Suli
WHAT DID WE LOSE? When the Church lost much of her sacred musical language, more than music disappeared. ✦ ━━━ QUICK READ ━━━ ✦ When people debate Catholic church music, the argument is often reduced to taste. Some people like Gregorian chant. Others prefer contemporary hymns. Some prefer the organ. Others prefer guitars. But something much greater than musical preference was at stake. For centuries, the Church cultivated a musical language recognizably her own. Gregorian chant, sacred polyphony, the organ, sacred silence, and generations of Catholic composition belonged to a world of worship deliberately set apart from ordinary life. That musical world did not recede for no reason. Changing ideas about participation, accessibility, cultural adaptation, and ecumenical openness helped create a very different musical culture. But this raises the deeper question: When the old musical world receded, what disappeared with it? We lost some of the distinctiveness that made Catholic worship …Suli

Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Hubertus van Megen told Germany’s bishops in Fulda that the papacy and the Eucharist safeguard Church unity and no local Church outranks another.
A Quiet ICE Surge That Unfolded ‘Everywhere All at Once’ This Summer nytimes.com/2026/09/25/us/ice-surge-immigration-a… A review of dozens of incidents caught on camera sheds new light on a largely invisible crackdown. The reporters reviewed more than 50 incidents and interviewed more than two dozen lawyers, business owners, residents and detained immigrants and their family members for this story. Published Sept. 25, 2026Updated Sept. 27, 2026 Leer en español The most effective escalation of President Trump’s mass deportation campaign happened quietly. Unlike earlier high-profile raids that drew thousands of protesters into the streets of Chicago, Los Angeles and Minneapolis, the surge in arrests in June, July and August was captured mostly by grainy security camera footage, through cracked blinds and from behind closed doors. Arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement this summer soared to record highs since the start of this Trump administration — with 43,000 in June, more than …Suli
Conservative Dutch Auxiliary Bishop Rob Mutsaerts joins the media enthusiasm surrounding Leo XIV’s reception in France. His praise of Leo XIV becomes rather grandiloquent: “The guillotine is gone. Now a man in white appears, proudly raising the Cross.” His central point is more interesting: secular Europe may have lost much of its Christian memory without losing its religious hunger. Mutsaerts sees a generation rediscovering the Cross, the rosary, Gregorian chant, Augustine and Aquinas. And he lands on a memorable image: “The world has organized Christianity’s funeral many times. The remarkable thing is that the deceased keeps showing up.”

Vatican Synod commission proposes “complete revision” of canon law — including marriages without a priest. A 10-member Canonical Commission established as part of the Vatican’s Synod on Synodality has published today proposals to reshape canon law. The report says that in the long term there is an “obvious need for a complete revision” of the Codes. The goal is to reflect emerging “theological and ecclesiological issues.” Among the proposals: • Sensus fidei: Canon 749 would begin by stating that “the entire body of the Christian faithful… cannot err in matters of faith” when universal consent in faith and morals is manifested “from the bishops down to the last of the lay faithful.” • Duty to listen: Pastors would have a canonical “duty to listen to the opinion of the Christian faithful” through communal discernment. • Lay governance: Bishops could appoint lay “episcopal delegates” exercising delegated authority. Lay men and women could serve as diocesan judges and, in certain cases, as …Suli
Going Viral in the Worst Ways nytimes.com/…09/29/opinion/trump-mideast-diplomac… Sept. 29, 2026 By Thomas L. Friedman Opinion Columnist 阅读简体中文版閱讀繁體中文版 President Trump is such an awful human being that just writing about him feels degrading. What president would denigrate his predecessor in front of China’s leader the way Trump mocked Joe Biden, now suffering from cancer, by pointing out that a framed picture of an autopen was hanging in the White House instead of Biden’s portrait? Alas, though, when someone as morally warped as Trump — whose first secretary of state called him a “moron” — assumes this much unchecked power at the dawn of the Age of Artificial Intelligence, he can’t be ignored. Because right now Trump is leaving America exposed to dangerous viruses: digital, biological and diplomatic. Something bad is going to happen to us as a result. We and our children are going to pay for this, and not only at the gas pump. Let me start with the digital virus now on the loose. …Suli
